Past / Present / Future’ represents the perception of Rockaway’s landscape. Here, the streets and buildings are framed by the continuous change of colors and textures of the open sky, the ocean, and the bay. This powerful natural setting has been a witness of the life in Rockaway for centuries, and one of the reasons why many people in the last 150 years have moved to the Peninsula. During the latest period significant social and urban changes had happened. And, the people of Rockaway faced many challenges due to nature’s fury, disasters, City policies, economic and urban changes, among others. My artwork for the Rockaway train stations (A and S lines) honors those who have lived and live in Rockaway, for their tenacity and commitment to their community, by exalting the beauty and potential of the place that have inspired them to overcome all obstacles over the years.
